We had family come and stay with us this past weekend and we took a trip to the Niagra Cave in Harmony Minnesota. Joel, Nicole, Zack and Auntie Chelsey came to visit us. The ladies took the kids to the cave and the guys went to St. Paul to tour the Summit Brewery. The Niagra Cave was discovered about 90 years ago when a farmer went to look for his missing pigs. They were found in a sink hole that was discovered to actually be a cave. About 10 years later it was opened to the public for tours. It is about 2.5-3 miles long, but only 1/2 mile is accessible on the tour. The cave is about 210 feet deep and about 48 degrees all year round. This past June it flooded and when the water receded it left about 2 inches of mud that had to be cleaned up. It was pretty amazing to see some of the large old stalactites that were estimated to be between 3-4 millions years old. Chelsey and Nicole were a little afraid that one would fall and hit them in the head. Luckily nothing like that happened.
